Disciple Makers in Training
“As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”
DIT 2021 and COVID
This year, the DIT program will look a little different. With the strict stay-at-home order occurring in Ontario this spring, we are not sure what the summer will look like in terms of gathering and overnight camps. With that said, we will still be running DIT, just in a new and different way.
What’s the Game Plan?
While the DIT program is normally run as a three-week project on site at UB Youth Camp, (one-week of discipleship/leadership training & two-weeks of hands-on ministry roles at camp), we will be offering the program in a new way. We want to bring our training portion to youth in a condensed, online forum. We will be offering two short online sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Additionally, we hope to also have the DITs partner up with leaders and other DITs in their local communities to complete a Bible study portion of the program. If restrictions lift, the Bible studies could be done in person, outside at a park/church/backyard. If not, we will make groups on Zoom.
What if restrictions lighten?
If we are allowed to gather in July, we would like to have a retreat weekend together to spend some time in-person. This would occur at the end of our week of study/training. We could serve and socialize and maybe even endeavor on a canoe trip (if possible)!
What if COVID is old news?
If overnight camps are allowed to run this summer, we hope that many of our DITs would sign up to help fill the roles and serve in ministry at camp (ie. co-counselling, worship, rec, crafts, lifeguard, kitchen staff, etc.).
Who is this for?
People born in 2003, 2004, and 2005 who are growing in their relationship with Jesus.
When is it happening?
Monday July 26th to Friday July 30th. DIT may be expanded to include July 31st and August 1st as Ontario restrictions allow.
Where is it happening?
Online with Zoom. Local outdoor gatherings may be possible with other DIT’s as Ontario restrictions permit.
Is there a cost?
The cost for DIT 2021 Online will be $60/DIT. This will cover all admin fees, the online sessions, and a special Pandemic Edition DIT sweater with your name on it.
Note: If restrictions allow, a canoe trip will require an additional fee.
So, What Will DIT’s do?
During a normal summer, DIT’s would spend one week at Hidden Valley Campground and then two weeks volunteering at UB Youth Camps, also at Hidden Valley Campground. As we all know, this summer is likely to not be a normal summer so DIT is officially online for summer 2021.
For DIT 2021, each morning we will have a 1-hour online session diving into the meaning of Discipleship through the life of Jesus.
“Then Jesus came to them and said,
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28: 18-20 (NIV)
For DIT 2021, each afternoon we will have a 1-hour online session to explore spiritual practices that can be used to strengthen your relationship with Jesus.
These practices range from simple things, like journaling and reading scripture, to the harder things like an evening of silence. Each DIT will respond to the practices in their own way, and we will explore these practices together.
12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
For DIT 2021, each evening will include an inductive study of scripture. DIT’s will be broken up into online zoom groups where everyone takes a turn leading the group in a deep dive into the word. Haven’t lead a bible study, let alone an inductive bible study? Don’t worry! We will explore this method for meditating on God’s word together.
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
Psalm 1:1-2 (NIV)
For DIT 2021, serving may not be a possibility due to the restrictions in Ontario. With this said, our hope is to have restrictions lifted enough to use the extended DIT dates to spend a day serving in our community. Serving is core to the DIT experience and our hope is to have this happen during our DIT week, or in the fall as restrictions allow. Until then, pray with us that this may be something we get to share in together.
12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
John 15:12 (NIV)
2021 Registration is now closed!
DIT 20201 Registration is now closed. Thank you to all who signed up and we look forward to what God has in-store for DIT this summer. For those who missed the deadline, we hope to see you next year!
23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
